Provision of services for the establishment of the Environmental Interpretive Centre (CIA) of the Monte Gordo Natural Park (PNMG), on the island of São Nicolau, in Cape Verde, as part of the “Enhancement of the Monte Gordo Natural Park” project.
The project for the enhancement of the Natural Park was presented in November 2021 by the municipalities of Ribeira Brava and Tarrafal de São Nicolau to the Fund for Supporting Good Urban Practices, through the project “Valuing our public space”, implemented by the National Association of Cape Verde Municipalities (ANMCV), with a budgeted amount of around 10 million Cape Verdean escudos and financed in more than 6 million by the European Union. The project aims to improve the living conditions of local communities, through the improvement of the park’s infrastructure, with the creation of a local handicraft shop, remodeling of the Park’s cafeteria-esplanade, rehabilitation of the picnic area, requalification of the accommodation, maintenance of the trails, construction of two viewpoints and creation of an Environmental Interpretive Centre.
BoG is responsible for creating the Environmental Interpretive Centre, whose main objective is to promote and raise awareness of the natural, historical and cultural heritage of the PNMG, and includes the development of information panels, a herbarium with endemic species and medicinal plants, a photographic gallery of local fauna, an interactive display of the different types of rocks found in the park, and an exhibition showcasing the park’s traditional craftsmanship techniques, amongst other things.
